The purpose of my work is to build a larger community surrounding music, where I can share opinions and experiences through writing, photography, and video.
Oftentimes I meet music fans on the sidewalk and talk with them for hours as we wait for a concert to begin. We have never met before, but somehow we relate to each other and form unique connections that we may not find in our everyday lives. I feel a sense of belonging as I realize that there are other people who not only share the same interests as me, but are passionate about the same music. We speak about the artist, the songs, our lives, and how the music connects to our experiences. I would like to document the stories of the people I meet, and the ways we interact with the music and the artists who create it.
Fortunately, I have the opportunity to meet with the artists that have performed after the show. For me, the music and the artist are on the same level of importance. Getting to know an artist and the inspiration behind their work gives the music a deeper meaning. I would like to compile stories from musicians, so others can form the connection between the music they listen to and the artists who create it. Through interviews and visual media, I want to capture the essence of the musician. Through my work, a music fan will have a better understanding of the artist's inspirations and creative process, and how they have come to create their work.
